Hokusai’s masterpiece meets the natural beauty of wood.

This tote bag features Katsushika Hokusai’s iconic masterpiece, “The Great Wave off Kanagawa,” printed on a thinly sliced sheet of natural wood.

The dynamic waves and Mount Fuji are brought to life while preserving the beautiful grain and natural character of the wood.

The wood grain remains visible beneath the artwork, creating a sense of depth and texture that cannot be achieved with conventional printing on fabric.

Because every piece of natural wood has its own unique grain, color, and character, no two bags are exactly alike—even when featuring the same “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” artwork.

The back is crafted from understated black Washi Tatami.

In contrast to the striking presence of Hokusai’s artwork and natural wood on the front, the back offers a simple and refined expression.

The gusset is made from Nishijin textile, one of Japan’s most renowned traditional woven textiles.

Different materials and textures are used across the front, back, and sides, allowing the bag to reveal a different expression from every angle.

The edges are finished with genuine leather, elegantly connecting the different materials while giving the overall design a refined and sophisticated finish.

The handles are made from black waxed cord with a distinctive three-dimensional braided texture.

With an inner handle circumference of approximately 46 cm / 18.1 in, the bag can be carried by hand and, depending on body type and clothing, may also be worn over the shoulder.

The interior features a vibrant Japanese-patterned fabric and includes an inner zippered pocket.

Even when the bag is opened, the details reflect Japanese aesthetics and craftsmanship.

About the Materials

This piece combines a variety of natural and traditional Japanese materials, including natural wood, Washi Tatami, Nishijin textile, and genuine leather.

As a natural material, the wood varies from piece to piece in grain, color, tone, and surface character. These natural variations mean that each Hokusai print takes on a subtly different appearance.

The woven texture and appearance of Washi Tatami may subtly change depending on the angle and lighting.

The placement and appearance of the Nishijin textile pattern may also vary slightly from one piece to another.

Genuine leather may naturally vary in grain, texture, and color, and may gradually develop its own character with use and age.

These variations are inherent characteristics of natural materials and handcrafted production. We invite you to appreciate them as part of the unique character of each individual bag.

* Avoid prolonged storage in direct sunlight or in hot and humid environments.
* Take care to protect the bag from water and rain. If it becomes wet, gently remove moisture with a soft, dry cloth and allow it to air-dry naturally in a well-ventilated area.
* Avoid strong impacts, excessive pressure, and contact with sharp objects, as these may damage the natural wood, Washi Tatami, Nishijin textile, or genuine leather.
* Take particular care to avoid snagging or excessive friction on the Nishijin textile.
* Natural wood and genuine leather may gradually change in color and texture over time. Please enjoy these changes as part of the natural aging process of the materials.
* When not in use, store the bag in a dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight.
